What will happen when I arrive?
Taking care of the physical body is the first step in relaxing deeply into the present moment. We recommend giving yourself the time to grab a glass of water or cup of tea, stretch, use the restroom, choose a blanket and lie down if that suits best. Become truly comfortable — so often we find ourselves in social situations where being polite trumps taking care of personal needs - this is a space where we celebrate you doing exactly what you desire.
Once everyone has settled into the circle, we will begin!
What will we do in the circle?
The individual playing the role of Eazer will commence the process of checking in - inviting you to explore how you are feeling - here, now. You may express any emotion that is coming up for you - joy, anger, frustration… even distraction.
No one is here to fix you or teach you. You are invited to just be yourself, exactly as you are. Nothing to do, nowhere to be, nothing to accomplish. A brief but total reprieve from the pressures of daily life. We listen to one another without any intention or judgment.
Do I need to have experience with meditation?
No.
Is it silent the entire time?
No. A way to think of this process is an intentional, collective stream of consciousness.
We ensure each participant is taking time to breathe as a preemptive measure for sharing spoken with purpose and consideration, also allowing each individual to feel fully expressed without judgement. Naturally, we find the circle may have long pauses of silence where some attendees enjoy an experience of internal and collective transcendence, joy or bliss.
Is havaya associated with a religion?
The tenets of havaya were developed through deep study of ancient spiritual traditions, biology, psychology, and human behavior, but havaya is not connected with any specific faith tradition. We welcome those of all faiths and beliefs.
